Hornbill Angling Festival 2018 concludes

Kohima, December 9 (MExN): The Hornbill Angling Festival 2018 which kicked off on December 3 last at Tsuza Eryu, Doyang, Wokha culminated at Lavi Lake, Dimapur on December 7 and 8.  

KN Mhonthung Lotha who won the event and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 along the certificate of citation. Kedibe Liegise and Roon Hazarika who stood in second and third position were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively.  

Other winners include Peteneizo Kense, Akai Awomi, Kuhokhu, Akashe Zhimomi, Mar Longkumer, Chandan, Sujit, Deepak Sarkar, Amal Kumar Banik, Lawrence Humtsoe, Kamal Kanta, L. Edward Lotha.  

More than 150 avid anglers from different parts of the country and state participated in the festival.  

Kevisa Kense, Director of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Government of Nagaland who graced the prize distribution ceremony as a special guest gave away the prizes.  

Nagaland need such recreational and sporting activities that can promote tourism, conservation etc in the state, he said and lauded the Anglers Association of Nagaland for the all out effort to promote angling in the state of Nagaland.   Kense, who was accompanied by host of officials from the department further viewed that the sport fishery is much profitable and therefore it must be encouraged in the state.  

Assuring to extend all possible support to extensively promote angling in the state, he informed that the department will explore places earmarked by the department in order districts and develop those areas.  

Phukato Sumi, president, Anglers Association of Nagaland who delivered a short speech thanked the department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for being ever supportive towards the association and because of which there has been much progress of angling in the state.  

Asang Jamir, convenor, Hornbill Angling Festival 2018 proposed vote of thanks. H. Lawrence, Secretary, AAN, chaired the price distribution ceremony.  

Anglers and visitors were enthralled by musical entertainment presented by Blended Colours, Viwoto Zhimomi, DJ Tali, DJ Sumika, senior angler of the state Wati Jamir and others.  

Hornbill Festival 2018 was organised by Anglers Association Nagaland (AAN) in association with the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources and Department of Tourism.
