Huker Village observes Red Letter Day

Tuensang, March 27 (MExN): Huker Village observed Red Letter Day on March 24 as it marks the “first war of Naga Independence which broke out on March 24, 1955 at Huker Village, which is also called the first Indo-Naga war.”  

Like other years, on March 24, people of Huker village led by Huker Village Council and Huker Village Students’ Union (HVSU) observed the day under the theme “Remembering the first war of Naga independence”. The programme was chaired by H. Yimto, GS HVSU. Kamtsula, Women Pastor Huker village said the invocation with introductory speech by Shophu, council secretary. Other highlights were song for the fallen heroes by H. Yakso, speech on behalf of the village council by Thsunthruba, 2nd Head G.B Huker village followed by mass silent prayer. Special prayer by Rev. G. Shitozu followed by vote of thanks by R.K Yanmusu, Ex-Chairman and benediction by R. Kamphula Mary (catechist).  

Huker Village Student's Union in a press release stated that earlier, the monolith stone at Huker Village was inaugurated by Pongam Khiamn in the presence of all the presidents of eastern Naga tribes.
