Human trafficking awareness in Pungro

Pungro, May 27 (DIPR): Legal awareness programme on human trafficking organised by Nagaland State Commission for Women in association with National Commission for Women, New Delhi was held on May 25 at Youth Hall, Pungro.   Chairperson NSCW, Dr. Temsula Ao said that the commission is organizing awareness programmes in all the districts to create awareness on the issues of human trafficking and also to inform the people in remote areas of the risks of trafficking which happen under the disguise of promise for better life outside the village and town.  

Dr. Temsula Ao also pointed out that human trafficking affects 4.5 million worldwide. In Nagaland, a person goes missing every 4th day, where 83% are below the age of 18 and 13% have been reported trafficked, 35% are untraced, she stated, adding such criminal activities cannot be handled by our traditional customary laws. She further emphasized on setting up Village Level Child Protection Committee (VLCPC).  

ADC Pungro, Kumla Longchar, Member NSCW Asungla Cholong, President YBA and President PPF Pungro also spoke at the function.
