ICAR conduct farmer awareness programme

Kohima, May 24 (MExN): Gramin Krishi Mausam Sewa, ICAR Research complex for NEH Region, Jharnapani. Medziphema organised farmer awareness programme at Piphema on May 24. Programme was organized to increase knowledge and sensitize the farmer about the importance of agromet advisories and empower the farmer community to adapt to climate change in agriculture and allied sectors. Around 40 farmers participated in the event  

Imtisenla Walling, incharge of the project, welcomed the farmers and highlighted on the importance of Integrated Agromet Advisories in depth and how its usage could have an impact in their production in the changing climate scenario. She also mentioned about the monthly advisories that are being provided on the first Friday of every month through the Morung Express.

 Dr. Azeze, Scientist (Horticulture) addressed the gathering on the impact of climate change in horticulture crops that includes fruit crops, vegetables, flowers, spices, plantation, medicinal and aromatic plants. Dealing on the topic, the scientist appraised the farmers on the different adaptation measures to be undertaken like change in sowing/ planting dates, develop new crop varieties, improve in water supply, irrigation and drainage systems, conservation tillage and crop residue incorporation, .  

Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie, Subject Matter Specialist Animal Science educated the farmers on the different effects of climate variations on livestock production and mitigation strategies to minimise their effect. She also apprised the farmers about the symptoms of the common diseases in livestock and their remedial measures.  

Farmers actively participated in the discussion, where they were advised management practices to be followed and the problems faced by the farmers on agriculture and livestock were noted.
