ICAR-NRC Research Advisory Committee meet held

Jharnapani, May 19 (MExN): The 9th annual meeting of Research Advisory Committee (RAC) was held on May 17 at ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Jharnapani.  

The committee visited the institute mithun farm and taken the account of various farm activities followed by the plantation. The meeting started with presentation of the overview of research activities and achievements by Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Director, ICAR-NRCM.   At the outset, RAC chairman has outlined the socio-economic position of mithun and expressed his happiness over the increasing mithun population in last census, however also emphasized that with increase in the population  will also bring greater responsibility to  the institute to play pivotal role to sustain the increasing  trend of population.   The committee has appreciated the efforts made by the Institute for establishing Open Nucleus Breeding System (ONBS) for conservation and propagation of superior quality germplasm in the Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.   The meeting was attended by Dr. Dharmeshwar Das (RAC chairman), Dr. B.S. Prakash, ADG (AN& P), ICAR, New Delhi, Dr. Kusumakar Sharma (Former ADG & member) , Dr. K.K.Baruah, (Ex-Director, NRC on Yak), Dr. A. Chakravorty (Director of Research, CVSc & AH, Khanapara),  Dr. A. Aziz (HOD, Animal Genetics & Breeding, CVSc & AH, Khanapara), Sh. Jaangsilung Gonmei  (IMC member), Sh. Lachit Kachari (IMC member) and all the scientists of the institute.   The RAC major recommendation was the determination of carrying capacity of mithun inhabited forests in association of forest research institutions.   The house advocated for organizing an International Mithun Conference inviting the researchers, academia, and policy makers from ASEAN & SAARC member countries having mithun population.   The programme was concluded by vote of thanks by Dr. Nazrul Haque, member secretary.
