Imchen condemns atrocities against Christians

Ex-Minister and sitting NPF MLA, Imkong L. Imchen has pointed out that atrocities against Christians across the country were increasing “very very alarmingly” and condemned such acts.

“Christian population in India constitutes only 2 % of the total population. Is it a threat to Hinduism? What happened to India?” he queried.

Addressing a press conference at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur on Tuesday, Imchen said he was looking upon Hinduism as one of the most tolerant, flexible and accommodative religions, but added that its action today spoke differently.

“In Nagaland, we have been trying our best to protect and defend other religious practices. I was involved in construction of Muslim mosques and Hindu temples and I am still going to do that. I do not take it as a threat to Christianity,” the MLA added.

Imchen said that India cannot be converted into a theocratic state and that no religion can be wiped out. India, he added, could be made strong on its secular credentials by protecting and defending religious minorities. “India becoming such an intolerant state is something we cannot comprehend,” he stated.

Speaking about the issue of unemployment in the State, Imchen asserted that the government also had its own share of blame but added that it was not binding on any government to provide government jobs to all youth. He harped on dignity of labour and encouraged youngsters to work hard to lead a dignified life.
