Imliyala Longchar receives 1st Dr I Longrizung Trust Award

The first Dr I Longrizung Trust Award was received by Imliyala Longchar at an award programme held on October 16 at Longkumer Kilem, Mokokchung.  

The Dr I Longrizung Trust Award is instituted for candidates, who qualify in the National and State Level Examination for MBBS course study.  

Director of the Dr I Longrizung Trust, L Mefutiba Ao gave an introductory to the award where he said that the award was introduced with an aim to encourage young minds of Longkhum village to undertake Medical studies to serve humanity as endeavoured by Dr I Longrizung during his lifetime. He added that the award was started after the passing away of Late Dr I Longrizung in 2006 by the family members.  

He also added that it was initially started with an aim to provide free medical assistance to economically challenged people living in places where gaining access to medical assistance is challenging. The Trust also gives Academic Excellence Award for both Arts and Science in Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung. Apart from the awards, the Trust has been conducting Free Medical Camps in different villages.  

Chief Guest, M Bendangnukshi Longkumer, senior advisor MCCI and President Longpok Semchir Telongjem gave away the award and congratulated the family members for their humanitarian service and urged the gathering to emulate the benevolent service carried out by the (L) Dr Longrizung and family members and wished Godspeed to the award recipient for her future endeavours.  

He also said that Late Dr I Longrizung has a cleared goal to be a physician and serve the people. “He was a humanitarian who earned people's respect because of his honesty, sincerity and hard work,” he added. He further said that today's society need visionary and selfless achiever like Dr I Longrizung.  

The receipt of the award Imliyala Longchar also delivered her acceptance speech during the event. The programme started with invocation offered by Rev Ponen Longchar, Pastor of MTBA and benediction was pronounced by Rev T Aka Jamir, Pastor of Longkhum Baptist Church.  

Late Dr I Longrizung joined the Civil hospital Mokokchung as Assistant Surgeon II in 1951. He was a trained Anaesthetist and Radiologist from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh 1956 and 1960. He was also the first pioneering physician from the State to have undergone training on “Safety Aspect in Medical use of Radiation” at Bhaba Atomic Energy Establishment Trombay, Bombay 1966.  

One of the founding members to start Fazl Ali College Mokokchung 1959, recipient of Vijay Ratna Award New Delhi 1997, Certificate of Excellent New Delhi 1997, Best Citizen of India Award New Delhi 1988 and Gold Star Award from London 1998.
