Police on Sunday closed down a road in the busy Imphal after a suspicious thermo flask was found near the Western gate of Kangla Fort. The road was opened only after the bomb experts confirmed that it was not an explosive but an unattended thermo flask.

Reports said that some police personnel on duty sounded an alert after they found the unattended thermo flask on the median of the NH-2 in front of the Western gate of Kangla Fort around 11 am. Soon after the discovery of the thermo flask, police closed the traffic as part of a precautionary measure before calling experts from the state police bomb detection and disposal squad. After the bomb experts examined and found no explosive in the empty thermo flask, the traffic was opened around noon.

Such a case of hoax was the second time since the two bomb blasts in Imphal that had inflicted injuries to security forces.

Two days ago, a similar incident was reported at Imphal’s Palace Compound.

Such incidents of hoax have also occurred amid the tightened security measures being taken up by the state police in Imphal and its outskirts following the two bomb blasts.
