Kohima, February 13 (MExN): ATMA Botsa Block conducted a field day cum demonstration on nursery bed preparation of onion in Teichuma Village on January 29 last.
The programme was initiated by the SDAO, Chiephobozou taking into consideration the IFAD-FOCUS project for which the farmers needed a hands-on demonstration and technical guidance for the cultivation of the crop. Resource person of the programme Hainenle Tep, ATM, Botsa Block highlighted on the need and importance of raising nursery beds for onion.
She also discussed about the method of cultivation practices of onion, its varieties, land preparation, climate, weeds control, irrigation, diseases and pest management. Frontline demonstration of preparing nursery bed was followed with discussion and feedback.
Vizokhonyü Yhome (AO) shared on the importance of IFAD-FOCUS project in the state and the economic importance of onion. The time of transplanting was also discussed with the farmers.
The programme saw the participation of the ATMA, Botsa Block, SDAO, Chiephobouzou and also with the cooperation and participation of the farmers. Altogether, 17 farmers attended the programme.
In a separate programme ATMA, Botsa Block also conducted trainings on Oyster mushroom cultivation and Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) at SDAO, Chiephobozou on February 4.
A Farmer Interest Group (FIG) from Seiyhama Village attended the training where mushroom spawns, Biofertilizers and plant growth promoters were distributed.
