Indian Army observes National Cancer Awareness Day

Kohima, November 10 (MExN): Troops of Indian Army celebrated the National Cancer Awareness Day on November 7 at Dhole Bagan High School in Mathurapur Gram Panchayat of Charaideo District in Assam. 


As per a press release from Lt Col Sumit Sharma, PRO (Defence), the aim of the event was to educate the population to detect cancer early. National Cancer Control Programme was started in 1975 to make people aware of the deadly disease, the release added.


The Army medical team explained that the best remedy against the cancer is to live a clean and healthier life with proper diet and peace of mind.  The event was attended by more than 120 persons including students, elders and youth from the nearby villages. The attendees participated with full enthusiasm. A lecturette competition was also conducted which saw participants speaking their mind on various social issues. The population appreciated the efforts made by the Army in conduct of such events in the school.
