Mokokchung to face Dimapur in final today

Host Mokokchung will take on defending champions Dimapur in the final of the 6th Inter-District Veteran Football Tournament to be held on April 17. Both teams registered victories in their respective semifinal matches on Thursday.
In the first semi-final, host Mokokchung defeated Wokha 2-0. The first half remained goalless until Akangtemsu broke the deadlock in the 45th minute scoring through a free kick much to the delight of the cheering home crowd. Hobemo then added a second goal in the 57th minute.
In the second semi-final match between Dimapur and Tuensang, the defending champions were quick to get on the score sheet with Lima opening his account in the 6th minute. The second goal came in the 12th minute via a header from Oinam Jet.
Tuensang held on and two minutes later, Bumat Thupong Chang scored to make it 2-1. The defending champions were under pressure after conceding the goal, but when Lima scored his second and his side’s third in the 29th minute, the Dimapur side could heave a sigh of relief.
The second half saw a weary Tuensang team being held as the veterans from Dimapur defended strongly. Dimapur went on to get its fourth goal with Sanjit finding the back of the net in the 51st minute.
The third place will be played between Wokha and Tuensang on April 17 at 7:00 AM. The final match between Mokokchung and Dimapur will kick off at 10:30 AM after a brief closing ceremony. Bendanglila, ADC & Administrator, Mokokchung Municipal Council will grace the closing ceremony as Chief Guest.
