Awareness session to sensitize NCC cadets

Kohima, June 24 (MExN): In view of the International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking, the Nagaland Girl’s Battalion NCC Kohima commanded by Lt Col Joy Choudhury is organizing an awareness session to sensitize the NCC cadets studying in various schools and colleges.
As a mark of the occasion, a function will take place at 16th Assam Rifles on June 25 from 9:45 onwards.
After introductory note by Lt Col Joy Choudhury, commanding officer, I Nagaland Girl’s Battalion NCC, the programme will be followed by significance of the day by V. Bazo Kire, director Kekhrie Foundation, Kohima, “ Demand reduction” by Dr. P. Ngully, chairman, Kripa Foundation, Kohima, “Drug Users Response” by Ketholelie Whuorie, NUN (Nagaland Users Network, “Testimony” by Tribhuwan Lama, KUN, Kohima Users Network and “Illicit Drug Trafficking in Nagaland” by Limatoshi Imsong, Deputy SP, Special Branch, Police HQ.
Awareness rally will also be part of the occasion which would start from 16 Assam Rifle- Ao Church- Razou Point- CPC and back to Assam Rifles camp.
The programme will also be marked by signature campaign by participants at 16th AR Auditorium while vote of thanks will be delivered by Lt. Regina Razousinuo, Associate NCC officer.
The General Assembly of the United Nations, by resolutions No 42/112 of 7th Dec 1987 decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking.
The Government of Nagaland has called upon various concerned departments to make a more concerned effort to streamline the programme, suggesting that these departments should move together in a synchronized and coordinated manner with the department of social welfare as facilitating agency for rehabilitation of drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
The National Cadets Corps was established by an Act of Parliament in 1948. The NCC, in addition to its many activities focuses in working with the youth in engaging with the Society, to address issue of social concern and community development.

Excise Dept on penalty in illegal dealings of drugs

Dimapur, June 24 (MExN): In commemoration of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” on June 26 with the rest of the world, the Nagaland State Excise under the aegis of UNDCP and NCB has issued the consequences in illegal dealings of drugs.
The department in a press note issued by commissioner of Excise M Patton IAS stated that illegal dealing in drugs, in any form, sale, possession, transaction, transportation, export, import inside India or from outside is prohibited and punishable under NDPS Act 1985 with punishment ranging from 10 to 20 years imprisonment and with fine from Rs 1 Lakh to 2 Lakhs or with both.
Allowing premises, warehouse, godown, vehicles or use of any kind of conveyance will be liable for confiscation to the state under NDPS Act with punishment ranging from 10 to 20 years imprisonment with fine from Rs 1 Lakh or Rs 2 Lakhs or with both, it stated.
The note also mentioned that concealing of narcotic drugs in any form by goods, things or any items will be liable for confiscation to the State with punishment ranging from 10 to 20 years imprisonment and with fine from Rs 1 Lakh to Rs 2 Lakhs or with both.
NDPS Act’ 85 also prescribed stringent punishment to the extent of “Death Penalty” for repeated offences committed either in India or abroad. Any property, assets, movable or immovable bank account/ bank balances acquired or derived from drug money by either spouse, family members/associates, friends are liable for attachment to use state and “Freezed” bank accounts/bank balances under NDPS Act.
“On this auspicious occasion, the Nagaland State Excise Department appeals and urge the people of the state to affirm and resolve and take pledge not to harbor any drug trafficker(s), peddlers in any form – directly or indirectly, but to report the incident of commission of offence under NDPS Act, taking place or likely to take place in your locality or neighborhood to the Excise Department. Together we can combat and root out this dreaded drug menace from our society in a “Fight to the finish”,” the note stated.
