In Int’l Women’s Day message, Gov appeals to help girl child, women vegetable vendors

Kohima, March 10 (MExN): In a delayed message, the Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya today extended International Women’s Day greetings and best wishes to the women of Nagaland in particular and the country in general.  

Acharya appealed to the people of Nagaland to make ‘Beti Bachhao, Beti Padhao’ movement a success by adopting at least one school going girl child through contributing Rs. 3000/- in account number 35843617072, SBI, Kohima Main Branch in favour of Beti Bachhao, Beti Padhao Scheme. Meanwhile, the Governor thanked the last year’s sponsors of 220 girls under the said project.  

Acharya also instructed the newly formed Government to provide women vegetable vendors clean and secured kiosks at a nominal rate.  

“Women have played a pivotal role in building the nation and have been contributing towards the progress of the society in every field,” the Governor acknowledged in the message, while calling on the people to remind oneself that empowerment of women and equality, liberty and dignity are sacred rights of women.  

He also maintained that gender equality is the need of the hour. “Women are gift of God,” the message added.  

Stating that International Women’s Day is an opportunity to highlight the progress that has been made towards achieving gender equality, the Governor also urged the people to reflect on how all can make the Naga society more just and equitable for women and to celebrate the women who have achieved extraordinary things.  

Acharya conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to all women who are the backbone of the society.
