‘Iodised Salt- Traders Responsibility’

Mokokchung, October 22 (MExN): Global Iodine Deficiency Disease Prevention Day was observed at Mokokchung Municipal Council Conference Hall on October 22 under the theme ‘Iodised Salt, Traders Responsibility’ with the salt traders of Mokokchung Town. The salt traders signed a pledge to sell only iodised salt for human consumption.

The aim behind this day is to generate awareness of adequate use of Iodine and to highlight the consequences of Iodine deficiency. A press release from the Medical Department Stated the Dr. Kibangkumba Deputy Chief medical Officer highlighted the importance of Iodine and Iodine is an essential Micronutrient required for normal thyroid function growth and development. Iodine deficiency can lead to variety of health and development consequences known as iodine deficiency disorders. He stated monitoring of iodised salt will be done by ASHAs in every shop. The programme was attented by salt traders, MMC members, salt traders and Chief medical office staffs.
