IPPI campaign 2011 launched

Dimapur, January 23 (MExN): In the global effort to eradicate polio disease, Nagaland, along with the rest of the country, observed the 1st round of Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) Campaign for 2011, today, January 23, 2011. Polio Sunday was officially launched in Kohima at 8:00 am in the morning by Dr. V. Sekhose, Principal Director, Department of Health & family Welfare, who administered the first OPV drops at the premises of Naga Hospital Authority Kohima. Others present for the function included Dr. Imtimeren, Director (Family Welfare), senior officials of the Department, Kohima District CMO & officers, and  MS & other officers of  NHAK.
A total of 2604 Polio booths have been set up in all the districts of the state which were manned by 10416 vaccinators and 521 supervisors along with vaccines and other logistics to administer polio vaccine to all eligible children between 0-5 years. The campaign is expected to cover an estimated 2.6 lakh throughout the state. House to house campaign was also carried out to administer polio to those children not covered by the booths.
