‘Irresponsible act’ of AR condemned

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 30 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) today condemned the “irresponsible act” committed by the 35 Assam Rifles on September 28.

A press note from the MIP, NSCN (IM) stated that this incident has “vitiated” the peaceful atmosphere when “the whole Nagas young and old across the length and breadth of Nagalim are longing and incessantly praying in support for peaceful final solution of the long drawn Indo-Naga conflict.”

The three persons apprehended by the AR were identified as Captain PK Akas, Lieutenant Ashang Kashung and Corporal N Elvis. The NSCN (IM) claimed they were nabbed “while they were on official duty monitoring law and order situation for peaceful maintenance against destructive elements who have from time to time created situation including threat to civilian lives such as bombing etc.”

“The three detained Naga army officers were never indulged in tax collection as falsely alleged by the Assam Rifles. Instead, the Assam Rifles should help create peaceful atmosphere to coexist rather than create unwanted situations,” it stated.

The NSCN (IM) reaffirmed that it is “fully committed respecting the new relationship being worked out between India and Nagalim” and asked that all concerned contribute towards creating a peaceful atmosphere.

It condemned the 35 AR for “flexing its muscle with brute force where it is not necessary.” “The broken legs and torturous marks all over the body is clear indication of third degree torture,” the NSCN (IM) alleged.

It meanwhile appreciated the people of Senapati, civil societies particularly the Naga People’s Organisation, Senapati District Women Association, Senapati District Student Association and the Senapati Karong Women Association “for their timely intervention and standing up to voice against the injustice meted out to the Naga people.”
