Dimapur, January 20 (MExN): The Joint Action Committee (JAC) for Dhobinalla-Lhomithi-Signal Angami-Thahekhu-Rangapahar Road has resolved to ‘seriously monitor’ the ongoing works for the upgradation of the road to two-lane from Dhobinalla to Diphu, Assam Road length 8km via Thahekhu Rangapahar Crossing and Sangtamtilla under ISC Scheme.
A press release from the Convener of the JAC, KK Yepthomi, today informed that the contract price of the said project is at Rs. 17, 71, 89, 780 (Rupees seventeen crore, seventy one lakh, eighty nine thousand, seven hundred and eighty). The road construction from Dhobinalla to Thahekhu gate was taken up for construction by the Government of Nagaland “under the pressure of JAC,” it stated, and was “constructed years back.”
“That the road and drainage from Dhobinalla to Thahekhu gate is in need of repair and therefore, the allocated fund should be utilized purely for the project. Way back in 2003, fund for road project from Thahekhu Water Point to Rangapahar-Sangtamtilla was also diverted for construction of Plaza Point Foot over bridge,” it alleged.
In this light, the JAC cautioned that “the fund for this particular road stretch (Dhobinalla to Thahekhu gate within Dhobinalla to Diphu Road project) should not be diverted to any other works. The allocation already done for Dhobinalla to Diphu road must be solely utilized for the said project.” The JAC reiterated that it will “not tolerate any diversion of funds.”
The Committee also appealed to the contractor/firm concerned to “properly construct, as per specifications, all the drainage and slabs along the entire road stretch as mentioned in the Detailed Project Report.”
The JAC stated that it will be compelled to take its own course of action “in the event of any diversion of fund and poor workmanship.”
