Independent MLA, N Jacob Zhimomi, has resigned from the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly. He is now reported to be set to join the national Bharatiya Janata Party.

Along with him, all rank and file of the Naga People’s Front from the 4 Ghaspani-I Assembly Constituency have resigned from the active and primary membership of the regional party.

Zhimomi, in his resignation letter to the NLA Speaker on January 20, gave no reason for his resignation. He joined the NPF led DAN coalition and held positions like Parliamentary Secretary for Irrigation and Flood Control and Advisor, Public Health Engineering Department for the Government of Nagaland.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA Mmhonlumo Kikon tweeted about Zhimomi’s resignation on Sunday adding that the latter will join the BJP.   “Winds of change in Nagaland politics! Independent MLA Jacob Zhimomi resigns from the Assembly! All set to join BJP,” Kikon tweeted on the early evening of January 21. His tweet was shared widely across social media.

Nagaland State BJP sources also confirmed the news and informed that both Zhimomi and veteran Congress leader and former Chief Minister, KL Chishi, will formally join the national party on Monday.

In a separate resignation letter from the NPF’s Ghaspani-I unit, its President, Vitoho Zhimomi and General Secretary, Vinson Kikon, today stated that “In the interest of 4 Ghaspani-I A/C in particular and the state in general, all rank and file of NPF from 4 Ghaspani-I A/C hereby tender our resignation from all party responsibilities and from Active/Primary member(ship) of the party and resolved to join BJP along with our young and dynamic leader Jacob Zhimomi to further strengthen the leadership of Narendra Modi with immediate effect.”
