Dimapur, September 15 (MExN): The Dimapur Jain Community took out a procession in Dimapur town on the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi, which marks the end of 10 day long Paryushan festival. According to the Jain faith, it is also the day when Lord Vasupujya, the 12th Jain Tirthankar, attained Nirvana.
The ten-day fast is observed voluntarily and those observing fast are allowed to take water once in a day. This year 25 men and women observed the 10 day long fast having water just once a day.
After the procession, the idol is brought back to the temple and a ritual called “Abhishek” is performed using water. A special breakfast is arranged the next morning for those observing the fast.
Each day of the Paryushan festival signifies a particular virtue of Jainism which are – Forgiveness, humility, straightforwardness, contentment, truth, self restraint, penance, renunciation, non attachment and supreme celibacy.
Vice-President of the Jain Community, Binod Kumar Sethi, thanked the administration for giving the necessary permissions to take out the procession.
