Kohima, September 15 (MExN): Jakhama observed ‘Rashtriya Poshan Maah’ (National Nutrition Month) at Jakhama Town Hall on September 14.


A press release received here stated that in line with the national nutrition month, "Sensitization of Gender Concept" was also held with stakeholders, village representatives of Jakhama block, SHGs and Anganwadi workers. 


The programme was organized by Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana - Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NSRLM), Rural Development, Jakhama Block in convergence with the department of Social Welfare and Health & Family Welfare, Jakhama Block.


Block Programme Manager, DAY- NSRLM, Vitsituo Mepfhü-o gave an overview of the NSRLM. He stated that Jakhama Block having 94.7% achievement rate was the most successful in the State.


Mepfhü-o informed that around 1400 youth from Jakhama Block have benefited till date under ‘Start up village entrepreneurship programme,’ and over 700 have benefitted from ‘Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana.’ Under ‘Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana’ youths were provided training for employment in hospitality, carpentry etc which has 100% job placement, he added.  


Resource person, MO, Jakhama Block, Dr Asano highlighted the problems of anemia caused due to iron deficiency, which is mostly prevalent among pregnant women, adolescent girls and children. While sharing the causes and symptoms of the disease she stressed on the importance of a balanced diet.


Supervisor, Social Welfare Department, Zachamo highlighted the main objective of the Poshan Abhiyan scheme which is to reduce malnutrition and also reduce the nutritional gap, targeting children below 6 years, pregnant women, lactating mothers and adolescent girls. He encouraged the expecting mothers for first live birth, to register under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana,’ which provides cash incentive of Rs 5000 in three installments.


Area co-coordinator, DAY-NSRLM, Jakhama RD Block, Sokhrienuo Rüpreo shared on the importance of ‘1000 days windows of opportunity,’ a period starting from pregnancy till 2 years, which she added, was the most crucial stage for the growth and brain development of the child. 


Area co-coordinator, DAY- NSRLM, Jakhama RD Block Vilasenü Weo, also spoke on the topic ‘Gender Orientation.’ Puhovi Tase, President Southern Angami Village Council Chairman and Kevizeho Rote, President Southern Angami VDB Union also spoke during the event.
