JD (U) asks WVC to revoke March 25, 2017 resolution

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 16 (MExN): The Janata Dal (United) today expressed concern at a resolution taken by the Wokha Village Council (WVC) on March 25, 2017, whereby the council decided as per their resolution no. 17 “to support only Dr. Chumben Murry who is presently the standing candidate of the Naga People's Front (NPF).”

“The resolution further states that no person shall be allowed to contest in the ensuing 2018 General Election to the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA),” a press note from the JD (U) central unit said.

It stated that by passing such an arbitrary resolution, “the WVC has already attracted the section 123 of the Representation of the People Act 1951. Further, the resolution can be understood to have passed with ill intention which also attracts Sections 131, 132,133, 135 of the Representation of the People Act 1951 and Section 171-D of the India Penal Code.”

As such, the party served an ultimatum to the WVC to immediately revoke the said resolution. The JD(U), it stated, would “leave no stones unturned to ensure that a free and fair election is conducted in Nagaland for which it shall not hesitate to knock the door of the Election Commission of India (ECI) against the candidature of aforementioned person if the WVC does not judiciously pay heed to this call of the JD(U).”
