Dimapur, July 12 (MExN): Expressing concerns over medical and health care, the North East Executive Council (NEEC) JD(U) has maintained that there is need for having patients guest house at the North East Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIMS), Shillong. Due to the increasing number of patients intending to avail cheap and efficient medical care, the house is needed, a press release from the media cell, NEEC, Janta Dal (United) said.
The release further reiterated on the cancellation of the programme for laying of foundation stone by Conrad Sangma, Chief Minister Meghalaya for Nagaland Medical Lodge at Mawdiangdiang, Shillong on July 10 by the government of Meghalaya because of the stiff opposition by the influential Students Body, the Khasi Students Union (KSU).
Discussing the matter with the Khasi Students Union(KSU), the NEEC, JD(U) learnt that the said land in question has been previously allotted for construction of District Lodge. Further the KSU conveyed that the Union was not opposed to the construction of Medical Lodge, be it that of Nagaland or any other Northeastern State.
“The KSU is only concerned with the particular land in question. Therefore the NEEC strongly feels that the stand of KSU is reasonable,” it said. Further the NEEC suggested both the governments of Nagaland and Meghalaya to find an alternative land for the said purpose.
