Journalists under the aegis of All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) sitting in front of the Chief Minister’s bungalow in Imphal late Saturday night demanding the release of their colleague from the police custody.
Imphal, August 12 (NNN): Journalists in Imphal marched late Saturday night from Manipur Press Club to the Chief Minister’s official bungalow demanding the release of one of their colleagues who was arrested by the Manipur police for uploading a post on social media which allegedly contained “defamatory” remarks.
Kishorchandra Wangkhemcha, who is working with IS TV, a local cable television news network, is still in the custody of the police till the filing of this report. The journalist was arrested on August 9 last.
According to the reports received, representatives of the All Manipur Working Journalists met Chief Minister on Saturday at around 10:00 pm to demand the release of the journalist.
Kishorchandra Wangkhemcha had allegedly posted something on Facebook which was “defamatory” in nature and according to the reports it was posted the “defamatory remarks” on Thursday.
The reports also informed that a case has been registered against the journalist.
According to sources, the journalist is likely to be released anytime soon as Chief Minister, N Biren had reportedly assured the representatives of All Manipur Working Journalists.
