DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 17 (MExN): Khango Konyak has been elected as the new chairman of the United Nationals Liberation Front of Western South-East Asia (UNLFW), a press statement issued by the UNLFW publicity committee informed on Tuesday.

UNLFW is an amalgamation of various groups formed jointly by the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA (I)), the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN (K), the Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO), and the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB).

The decision to elect the vice chairman of NSCN (K), a retd Lt General from the Konyak community as the new chairman of the UNLFW was made during its general session hosted by the NSCN (K) on October 13 & 14 at NSCN CHQ, Taka.

The chairman has been empowered with full executive authority to direct or execute any actions or policies on behalf of the front and also during emergencies.

According to the press statement which was issued by Col. Isak Sumi, MIP, NSCN (K); N.E Esara Foreign Secretary, NDFB and Jibon Singha Koch, KLO, the house deliberated on various issues confronting the WESEA region and resolved to jointly work out programs, policies and strategies to tackle relevant issues of the region.

It also reaffirmed to follow the peaceful approach of settling any internal issues among the Front’s member organizations and to strive to build friendly relations with other non-member revolutionary organizations professing same principles and ideologies.

At the two-day session, the house resolved to urge other non-UNLFW organisations operating in the WESEA region to “desist from crediting the Front of any actions or activities unless on consultation and agreement even in the event of joint-ventures.”

It pointed out that all WSEA organisations are not a member of the Front and therefore a need to clearly differentiate between UNLFW and other WESEA organisations currently maintaining the same base area.

“Using WESEA doesn’t necessarily mean UNLFW which at present is comprised of NSCN/GPRN, ULFA (I), NDFB and KLO,” it added.

Meanwhile, the press statement also informed that the house deliberated on the appeal of PDCK (Karbi) and NLFT (Tripuri) for admission to the Front and has endorsed the matter to the chairman for necessary favourable actions at an earliest.

A minute silence was observed in remembrance and honour of the UNLFW’s founding Chairman late SS Khaplang.
