Khm Forest Division conducts Livelihood Programme

KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 24 (MExN): With an aim to raise responsiveness on conservation of forests and livelihood security, an awareness programme was organized by Kohima Forest Division on September 22 under the Livelihood programme.  

The Livelihood programme is entirely an initiative of Kohima Forest Division wherein Women Groups, SHG’s & Youth groups are targeted to strengthen their capacity and also provides financial incentives and assets to supplement their activities for securing livelihood.  

During the programme, Rongsenlemla Imchen, IFS, DFO Kohima highlighted on the importance of the role of SHGs with regard to forests & wild life protection in relation to livelihood security. Pezaneinuo, Ranger also spoke about the importance of SHGs and sustainable management of forests through their activities. As a part of the initiative, plastic chairs and solar lamps were distributed to SHGs under Kohima (Kigwema ) and Tseminyu (Sendenyu) to strengthen their capacities.  

The Livelihood initiative programme is in its 4rd phase and was started in August 2017 covering several SHGs involved in natural resource management such as raising organic crops, NTFPs and medicinal plant management.
