Pathos, January 17 (NEPS): Commissioner & Secretary, Finance and Land Recourses Department, Y Kikheto Sema, IAS called upon the Naga people for self-analyzing their positions, works and activities and aim to unitedly strive for larger goals.

He was speaking at the 2nd Khiamniungan Sports Council Meet 2019 as Special Guest here at Pathso Area Public Ground under Noklak District on January 17.

He regretted that the Nagas while engaging in small issues or sometimes non-issues, they had been missing bigger issues. “Time has come that the Naga people do some self-analysis as to whether they have been doing right,” he said and called upon them to come together and fight for the larger goals.

He said Nagas lived as same people without calling as Angamis, Sumis, Chekhesangs, Changs, Khamniungans, etc. But all these disappeared when the British came in their areas.

Kikheto Sema also said it was not only the Naga people alone but also the entire people of the North East should be united and work together for progression of their future. “How are we going to live in peace and progress when we keep quarrelling with our neighbors in the North East,” he said.

He said the North East people were strong people in India as they had the potential to advance in many areas. “We have the resources and they can be only explored to our advance as and when we are united,” he added.

He told the gathering that the North East was so fertile but their minds were barren. These unproductive minds would go away only when they could live together in peace and face together.

Calling upon the sportspersons to pay attention to their games, he said they should not listen to what the onlookers shouted at their playing as they did not know how they had been playing in the fields. “If you listen to whatever shouting by the onlookers, then you will not be considered as players,” he said. “You must play what you are supposed to play.”

Stating that the Khiamniugan people were humble and hardworking, Kikheto Sema said other Khiamniungans living in Myanmar areas should emulate them.

He told them to love and care those posted and living in their areas, even seeing their wellbeing. In this way, others would like to come in their areas citing example as to how he lived for the past 28 years in Kohima where he never experienced a single Angami hurting him. “I live in peace in Kohima not because it is the capital but the Angamis care and love them,” he stated.

President of the Khiamniungan Sports Council Er T Elo also spoke on the occasion.

Appreciating the Commissioner & Secretary for gracing the occasion, he said the Council had a target for the youths to “ensure equity, to embrace diversity and to enhance mutual respect in all sporting endeavors and also to give appropriate attention to the rural youths by providing a platform to expose their talents through sports and to assist and aid the talented athletes to participate in different levels of sports.”

President, Khiamniungan Tribal Council, L Ngon also spoke on the occasion.

Later the Special Guest opened the 2nd Khiamniungan Sports Council Meet 2019.

Large number of villagers from Pathso Village and surroundings villages witnessed the opening event of the Meet.
