Aids and assistive devices like wheelchairs, walking sticks, hearing aids machines, crutches and spectacles were today distributed to 1116 selected beneficiaries under Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RAY) and ADIP schemes at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall Kiphire on February 19. The programme was attended by various head of departments, village council chairman and NGO leaders. The implementing agency of RAY and ADIP is Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.

Addressing the elder citizens and beneficiaries, special guest RK Mathur, DGM, ALIMCO said ALIMCO is extremely happy to serve the people of Kiphire and with a vision to help elder citizens and disabled, who are in need of help, ALIMCO has come to the farthest district of the country.

“We don’t mind the difficult terrain, we want people with senior citizens and people with disabilities to avail the service provided by the government, those who are not registered under the schemes should get clinical check up and registered themselves to avail the benefit,” Mathur added.

Informing how ALIMCO could implement RAY & ADIP schemes in Kiphire, Mathur said that it was because of the effort of ADC Reny Wilfred IAS, Kiphire who took the initiative in making it possible for the beneficiaries of Kiphire to avail the schemes, calling Wilfred the catalyst of change.

Also speaking as the guest of honour, Deputy Commissioner M Shayang Phom, Kiphire, extended gratitude to ALIMCO on behalf of the administration and people of Kiphire for taking the trouble to come, saying that in return what the people of Kiphire can give back to ALIMCO and all involved for successfully implementing the schemes was to remember them in our prayer.

Giving a brief report of how RAY & ADIP schemes could be implemented in Kiphire, Wilfred said it was a red letter day for Kiphire as all 1116 beneficiaries got the privilege to start a new beginning adding “we are doing what we will be doing for our own parents, brothers and sisters.”

He also pointed out that the entire exercise for the implementation of RAY & ADIP schemes in Kiphire started way back in December 2017, where medical camps were organized in all the administrative HQ in Kiphire basing on which beneficiaries were selected.

Thanking the administrative officers, medical staffs and ALIMCO for touring the villages, the ADC mentioned that despite of natural disaster that struck Kiphire last year, work did not slow down, citing that officers had to track through the damaged roads and landside by foot to make sure no one was left out.

He further informed that volunteers from 13 selected villages will be sent for training on how to operate and handle the machines so that the same training will be imparted to the beneficiaries.

Welcoming the gathering, Longdiba L Sangtam SDO (C) Kiphire HQ stated that aids and assistive devices are given to those beneficiaries who were selected during last year medical camps held from July to August. Earlier the programme was chaired by Adiba L Sangtam AGS, KTSU and special number by Leochum V Thonger while vote of thanks was delivered by Sanjeev Hajoary, MO, ALIMCO.
