Kiphire: Govt departments highlight setbacks

Taking stock of various government departments functioning in Kiphire district, the Nagaland Minister of Soil & Water Conversation and Geology & Mining, V Kashiho Sangtam visited the office of Soil, District Hospital Kiphire, Chief Judicial and Prison on April 6.  

The staffs of Soil Department, during an interaction highlighted that it is understaffed which is affecting and hampering the effectiveness of the department. The staffs informed that the condition of office building is in a precarious condition and also due to non-availability of basic technical equipments for soil testing, the department is not in the position to carry out any research.  

The Minister assured to look into the issues raised and work out solutions.  

While visiting the District Hospital Kiphire, the Minister inquired about the status of the hospital to which the doctor in-charge disclosed that it was functioning with only 11 nurse and 5 doctors, making it extremely difficult to run the hospital. It was informed by the medical officials that the District Hospital has a shortage of 52 staffs further amplifying the problem was non- availability of Ultrasound and lack of specialist doctors.  

To address the problem in health sector, the Minister directed the department to put up the issues raised in the next DPDB meeting. The Minister also expressed his displeasure over the fact that the new hospital building has not been completed. “Health sector cannot be taken for granted,” the Minister stated while issuing a warning that “action will be taken against those who violate public trust.”  

The Minister also directed the District Administration to come up with a plan for setting up of Juvenile Court and Bar Office within the premises of Chief Judicial Magistrate. He also asked Kiphire District Central Jail Officer to prepare a roadmap to improve and develop the development deficit been faced by the jail authority.
