Kiphire Land Resources organise farmer’s award

Watershed Committee, farmers and SHGs from all the project villages under IWMP-III attended a farmer’s award programme organised by the Department of Land Resources, Kiphire at Hopongkyu Hall on May 17 with Puvil Kikhi, Deputy Director Land Resources as chief guest and Lankonsen Tsanglao, SDO (C) as guest of honour.  

Speaking at the programme, Puvil congratulated all the awardees and encouraged not to stop from there but to march ahead for better development of society. Highlighting the activities of the department, Puvil said that earlier the programme was under the Ministry of Rural Development GOI but now it is under Prime Minister Office. He also informed that though the programme is same, name has been changed to PMKSY from IWMP.  

Sharing the vision of the department, Puvil said that the aim of the department is to improve the livelihood sustainably of the villagers. He also cautioned that time may come where all this opportunity of subsidy and technical support by the government may be done away with and called upon the villagers to take maximum advantage of the department.  

Puvil also asked the villagers to play one’s own role to take care of nature in the form of conserving water by constructing water harvesting structures, prevent mud flow by constructing contour bunds so the ecosystem, ecology is not disturbed.  

He also gave away certificates and cash to the Khokri SHG, of Longthonger village, Longya SHG of Old Rissethsi and to Mujangri SHG Longthoner village for securing first, second and third respectively. Amongst the best farmers, the award went to Kiusui of Yinskiur and best performing village also to Yinskiur.  

Lankonsen Tsanglao SDO (C) who also spoke on the occasion said that the department is an active and performing department and “has he not been an administrator he would surely opted for Land resources department as the department has done many things to improve the livelihood of the farmers.” The SDO (C) also congratulated the department for organising such programme where women SHG are encouraged and at the same time gives an opportunity for farmers in the project to inculcate healthy competition.
