KMC informs on plastic carry bags/films

Kohima, July 31 (MExN): Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) Administrator has notified that as per the new Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, the thickness of petro-based plastic carry bags/films shall be 50 microns and above, except for compostable carry bags.  

In a statement, the Administrator, Kethosituo Sekhose informed that shopkeepers/street vendors under Kohima municipality willing to provide plastic carry bags for dispensing any commodity shall register with the KMC and manufactures/ sellers of compostable carry bags/films shall obtain certificate from Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) before marketing and selling of such carry bags/films.  

All unlicensed & unregistered plastic carry bags/films manufacturing units running in residential areas (unapproved area) shall be closed down by the concerned District Magistrate/Deputy Commissioner/ Municipal Authority/ SPCB/ PCC under its jurisdiction, it added.  

The notification has been issued in pursuance with the Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) vide NPCP/Plastic-2/8210 dated May 11, 2017 informing all manufactures, importers, stockiest, distributors, sellers and users of plastic & compostable carry bags to comply with provisions of the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016.
