Knight XI Thahekhu successfully defend 4th Unity Cup title

Chumoükedima, February 1 (MExN): Knights XI Thahekhu today successfully retained the 4th Unity Cup trophy by defeating Thahekhu Veterens by 13 runs at Chümoukedima Local Ground.


Nagaho scored 56 runs and took 1wicket to help Knights XI defend the title. The winning team also walked away with cash prize of Rs. 30,000 sponsored by Andrew Ahoto, Chairman Livingstone Hr. Sec School Dimapur.


The Veterens received Rs. 20,000 sponsored by Chupaman Rai & Family NBC Kohima, along with the running trophy.


Veterans’ Vishal was named the best bowler while Jintu of Knight XI was adjudged the best batsman. Mughavi of Knights XI was awarded player of the tournament.


The seven-day tournament was organised by Nepali Baptist Church Chümoukedima Sports Ministry under the theme, ‘Solidarity for Peace, was held from January 4 to February 1 with 12 teams at the Chümoukedima Local Ground.


The tournament aim is to nurture and develop sporting skills and the e Sports Ministry also aims to make use of sports to strengthen friendship and to bridge the gap between cultures and communities, a press note from the organiser informed.


Kumar Subba, Chairman Dimapur Gorkha Union was the guest of honour at the closing ceremony while Imsu Longkumer, Vice President NPP Dimapur State was the special guest.


Nagaland Cricket Team Captain Jonathan Rongsen also attended the final day as a special invitee.
