‘Know your rights & entitlement’ – KLC seminar reaches Mount Olive College

Kohima, August 21 (MExN): Kohima Law College (KLC) led by its Professor-in-Charge Kezhokhoto Savi conducted a seminar on ‘Know your rights & entitlement’ at the auditorium of Mount Olive College, Kohima on August 21.

The resource persons deliberated on ‘Public Services Delivery System’ based on the Right to Public Services Act. Every citizen is entitled to hassle-free public services and redresses of their grievances, the seminar highlighted, according to a press release from Savi.

They pointed out that the delivery system ensures and guarantees a time-bound delivery of the various services. It aims to improve the quality and works as an interface between the people and the State. Madhya Pradesh was the first state to enact Right to Public Services Act on August 18, 2010.

“If the concerned officer fails to provide the services in time, he/she will have to pay a fine. Thus, it is aimed to reduce corruption among the government officials and to increase transparency and public accountability,” the release stated.

Stating that people will no longer have to run around offices and grease the palms of employees to get their work done after the Act is implemented, it stressed that the Act thus makes government officials accountable and “help the government weed out corruption from the grassroots level to the top.”

Nagaland is yet to have the Act; hence, the Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) had launched the Public Services Delivery campaign during the 2016 Vigilance Awareness Week with an appeal to the State Government to introduce similar legislation for effective public services delivery to its citizens in the State and also for curbing corruption in the State government functionaries, it was informed.

Other topics covered in the seminar were: Consumer Rights, National Food Security Act 2013, Street Vendors Act 2014, State Consumer Helpline Toll Free No. 1800-345-3701, Environment, Food Safety & Standard Act 2006, Human Rights & Lokayukta. The resource persons were Hikavi H Kimimi, Tzudipang Ao, Sangla Chang, Vizetuo Solo, Pulato Zhimomi and Nyimbemo Shitire.
