Kohima, November 14 (MExN): Speaking during the CHILDLINE Se Dosti campaign programme held in Kohima on November 14, Kohima CHILDLINE District Coordinator, Neingutuonuo Kulnu said that about “five to ten missing case are reported every month.” 


“Interestingly, with holiday month ahead that is November and December, missing of children case is expected to reduce, as they go to their respective villages,” she said. 


Kulnu informed that over 500 cases of child abuse in four years were recorded by the CHLIDLINE Kohima, in which 80% of the abuses are domestic violence. She gave figure about the child missing cases starting from January this year. About 16 to 18 children abuse cases were reported, while adding that most of case goes unreported. Although some case are highlighted in the local media while some in the various court of law, there are a lot of cases that goes unrecorded, she added. 


Addressing the gathering, Kulnu stated that the campaign is a weeklong annual event that aimed at reaching out to people from different walks of life to “help in finding abandoned children.” It envisages in creating millions of Dost (friend and acquaint them with Child Rights and Protection), she said.  


CHILDLINE Se Dosti campaign, held from November 13 to 15, creates awareness at various urban Primary Health Centres and Sub-Health Centres under Kohima district. The campaign also aim at reaching people in educational institutions, railway stations, temples and churches, auto drivers, and markets creating awareness about 1098 aims as well as creating friends to strengthen the rights of-children in India. 


During the programme, participants also took pledge to lend a hand to CHILDLINE in helping children in distress and take action when necessary. They were also provided with fliers, business cards of CHILDLINE Kohima and a wrist band. The pledge reads: “DOSTI which stands for Dial 1098, for any help my dost might need, object or opposed to any harm caused to my dost; Speak up against those who caused harm to my dost; Treat my dost with dignity, respect and love.” 


CHILDLINE Kohima on November 13 sensitised about the campaign at primary health centres in the Western Angami area. CHILDLINE Kohima also conducted a sensitization program on health and hygiene with the children and other inmates of open shelter Spartan Society. Children were taught with basic things to stay clean, healthy food habits, and how to avoid minor sickness. 


They also provided free service on haircut, pedicure, Manicure etc to the children in the home by the trainees of Entrepreneur Development Integrated Training Institution (EDITI) in collaboration with CLK. Followed by a painting competition.
