Kohima Diocese celebrates Chrism Mass cum Priesthood Day

Kohima, March 22 (MExN): The Presbyterium, all the priests serving in the diocese, of the Diocese of Kohima, along with religious sisters and laity representative of the diocese of Kohima gathered in the Cathedral Church which is the mother church of the diocese, to celebrate the Chrism Mass cum Priesthood Day on March 20. It is a yearly celebration during which the priests and representatives of the entire diocesan community to gather around the bishop to celebrate this great event.  

Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of the Diocese of Kohima presided over the Eucharistic celebration. Bishop James in his homily expressed appreciation to all the priests and said, “Today I want to thank you all, my brother priests, for your faithfulness in priesthood and commitment in ministry. Despite many problems and difficulties they continue to carry out the ministry of the Church with great dedication.”  

At the end of the Liturgical celebration, the laity organised a felicitation programme. The highlight of the programme included a choral programme by The FMA Novices, Kohima, Special appearance by Catherine Kulnu and Fr. Benjamin. A note of gratitude was delivered by Rev. Fr. VU Johnson, President of Diocesan Fraternity of Kohima, representing the Priests. Mezhu-o Marcus Solo, Treasure of CAN, proposed the greetings on behalf of Catholic Association of Nagaland. The day came to a close with dinner.  

It was informed in a press release issued by Fr. Victor Renthungo, Secretary to Bishop that over 120 priests, a large gathering of religious sisters and faithful took part in this solemn yearly celebration. On March 19, the presbyterium of the diocese of Kohima gathered together for a meeting to discuss matters concerning the ministry and life of the priests.  

Prior to the Chrism Mass, on March 20 morning was spent in prayer and reflection. Rev. Fr. Kevin Ward Abraham, from Nongstoin Diocese, Meghalaya shared the reflection.
