Kohima: Excise dept busts huge quantities of assorted IMFL

In a delayed report, the department personnel at Excise check gate Peducha busted huge quantities of assorted IMFL loaded with other goods from a truck on December 3 at around 3:00 am. 


Excise department, Assistant Commissioner (Zonal) Kohima informed that around 700 cases of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) was seized from a truck bearing registration number AS01LC-4939 which was loaded inside bags of Pet Preform and arrested 2 persons in this connection. 


In this regard, Warepam Dimku Meitei (24) and a junevile were arrested under NLTP Act and is under investigation.
While intercepting with the arrested persons, they informed that the consignment was coming from Meghalaya and was on its way to Kohima. They however confessed that they are not known to the owner. 


Based on intelligence inputs, the police on duty at the gate, with Inspector Incharge Assistant Inspector Lawrence Lotha made the seizure, the officials told. 


Police informed that the modus operandi was to load consignments inside other goods to avoid detection.


"This is a new trend of bootlegging devised to escape checking in gates and the transport trucks carrying goods for Manipur are dropping consignments in Kohima," an excise office said stating that the department is taking priority in busting these new systems that bootleggers are using.
