Kohima links to India Post payment system

Kohima, September 1 (MExN): Chief Postmaster General North East Postal Circle launched India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) at Kohima Branch on September 1, at Hotel Japfu, Kohima.

 

On the day of the launching, IPPB will have 650 branches and 3250 access points spread across the country and the Government aims to link all the 1.55 lakh post offices to the India Post payment system by December 31, 2018. It has been envisioned as an accessible, affordable and trusted bank for the common man, which will offer assisted doorstep banking in rural, urban and remote areas.

 

Chief Secretary, R. Binchilo Thong IAS, in his address said that the objective of the IPPB is to spearhead by removing the barriers especially in the rural areas. He informed that with the launch in Kohima branch there will be five branches which will benefit the students, senior citizens, urban migrants, farmers’ mall business and house wives.

 

He added that the ultimate aim of all these exercise is to further financial inclusion and make India cashless to make it convenient and accessible.

 

Superintendent Posts, Nagaland post Division, Lalramzauva in his address highlighted that IPPB aims & objectives is to further financial inclusion for the underserved populations by providing current and saving account, payment or remittance services, low income households, small business ,ensuring that everyone has equal access to financial services no matter who they are what they earn and where they are.

 

He further appraised that IPPB will be powered by the Post Office’s unmatched reach with over 1.54 lakh post office across the country, 90% in rural areas, un-banked and under-banked. IPPB will take banking to every doorstep, coupled with an array of digital channels. He added that in Nagaland we have 43 Sub post offices and 286 branch post offices in the entire state as of today.

The programme was chaired by Marketing Executive Imtikumzuk. Welcome addresses was delivered by IPPB Branch Manager, Kohima, Sagar Halder .Other highlights of the programme ,a short Video message was presented on India Post Payments Bank.
