The apex body of the Konyak civil society, Konyak Union, met the impeached Chairman of the NSCN (K), Lt. Gen (rtd) Khango Konyak. A KU team met Khango somewhere on the Myanmar side of the international border.

When and where exactly the meeting took place could not be ascertained but reliable sources confirmed it occurred. There were reports of a civil organisation from eastern Nagaland taking the initiative to meet Khango with a team reportedly journeying on September 5 to meet the NSCN leader.

The KU did not officially confirm the report. However, the sources, on condition of anonymity, admitted a KU team had gone across the border and met the Naga leader.

Without divulging details, the sources said that the KU’s message to Khango was to urge him to join the ongoing political talks with the Government of India. When enquired if the meeting had any conclusion or positive outcome, they simply stated that they strongly hope that Khango would comply with the wish and aspiration of the people.

It was further disclosed that Naga civil society leaders from both sides of the international border will be undertaking a peace mission to meet Khango again. When enquired on the scheduled meeting, the sources refused to give the details.
