KVC asks ANTA to reconsider ultimatum

Kohima, April 1 (MExN): The Kohima Village Council expressed concern over the ultimatum served by the All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) through their President Visabeituo Solo on March 30.

The Association had given the state government three days to look into the grievances of its drivers all over Nagaland, failing which all taxi drivers would initiate a non-cooperation movement throughout the State.

As such, the KVC issued a press release on Wednesday, appealing the ANTA to reconsider its ultimatum. While the Council fully recognize the plight of the ANTA, it sought to remind the Association that the lockdown “has affected not only taxi drivers but all daily wage earners as well as private business establishments.”  Therefore, it would be most hasty and unwise for the Association to play out its ultimatum in the streets, endangering the safety and lives of everyone, including the lives of all the drivers and their dear and loved ones, the KVC stated.

Further, the KVC stated that the Government of Nagaland and the NGOs have already started providing relief in terms of cash and kind to the poor and needy, including daily wage earners. “This is not the time to serve ultimatum but to approach the government and public with their problems for assistance if it has not yet reached them,” the KVC said as it appealed to all the taxi drivers and taxi owners of the  village  to kindly comply with the  resolution made by the KVC on March 24.
