KVC warns commuters using Nagarjan Bridge

Dimapur, February 16 (MExN): The Kuda Village Council has warned commuters – both pedestrians and light vehicles – using the Nagarjan Bridge for passage that they will be doing so “at their own risk”.

The bridge over the Dhansiri River at ‘B’ Khel, Kuda Village suffered structural damage during the last monsoon season and has since remained closed for vehicular traffic.

Barricades erected by the Kuda Youth Club for public safety was burned down on two occasions by miscreants and subsequently, the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur had on January 27 issued an order restricting the crossing of the bridge for both pedestrians and vehicles. Anyone defying the order would be doing so at their own risk, the DC had warned.

In this connection, the KVC in a press release informed of its decision not to take any further responsibility in restricting vehicular or pedestrian movement “with immediate effect”. The decision, the release stated, was taken during an emergency meeting on February 13 during which the council also reviewed the condition of the bridge.

However, the KVC added that it was always ready to cooperate with the district authorities “if any action in connection with the safety of the commuters is to be taken”.
