KVK NU empowers rural women through training

Zunheboto, July 22 (MExN): Training on doubling rural women income through processing and preservation of locally available fruits and vegetables was conducted at Zaphumi village, Zunheboto by KVK Nagaland University Lumami from July 17 to 19. Altogether, there were 25 women participants.  

A press release issued by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK, Nagaland University Lumami stated that Narola Anichari, Home Science highlighted the purpose of the training, which was to provide information regarding preservation and processing of various locally available fruits and vegetables.  

The training was targeted at the women folk who are engaged in farming. They produce various fruits and vegetables namely pineapple, mango, brinjal, chilli, tomato etc. Most of these products are perishable and hence require proper processing and preservation method to prolong their shelf life.  

The training focused on teaching and demonstrating on preservation method like making pickles and squash. Vegetables like tomato, chilli, brinjal can be easily pickled and fruits like mango and pineapple can be converted into fruit juice and squash. Once they are pickled and made into juice or squash, they can be sold to generate income, it was noted.  

There are different kinds of vegetables and fruits locally grown in Zaphumi village. The training focused on a few of them to show how the locally available fruits and vegetables can be utilized without wastage.  

At the end, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia handed over the certificates to the participants for attending the training. He also encouraged and gave useful insights and information to the gathering.  

KVK Nagaland University Lumami also distributed training materials to all the participants.
