KVK scientists trained on doubling farmers’ income

Medziphema, January 24 (MExN): Five-day training & exposure visits on “Role of Horticulture in doubling farmers’ income” was organized by Central Institute of Horticulture Medziphema, Nagaland from January 13 - 17.
The programme was inaugurated by B Pradhan IAS Special Secretary & Financial Advisor, Dept of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India as chief guest.
Welcome address was delivered by Dr NK Patle, Deputy Commissioner (Hort), DAC &FW & Director i/c CIH Nagaland who highlighted the activities of CIH.
Dr RE Lotha Director, Department of Horticulture, Government of Nagaland delivered a brief remark stating the importance of CIH in the region and mentioned about the important food crops of Nagaland.
Scientists, farmers, FPOs and Skill development trainees also attended the inaugural programme.
FPOs from Dimapur and Kohima exhibited the Horticulture produce and interacted with chief guest on possible supply chain.
The programme was anchored by Marina, Senior Tech Asst and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Moasosang Longkumer Asst Horticulture Specialist.
The resource persons were Horticulture scientists from ICAR Nagaland and Manipur Centre who provided lectures during the training programme.
Field visits were also made where the participants visited pineapple farms in Molvom village, dragon fruit farm and nursery at Dreams Dragon nursery in Shokhuvi village and organic vegetables farms in Bade village.
The participants also had a tour to Pfutsero, Phek district to visit organic vegetable farms and state owned Horticulture Research Farm.
The trainees comprised of KVK Scientists and Extension functionaries. Altogether 17 trainees participated in the training whereby, certificates were distributed after completion of the training.
