KVK Tuensang conduct soil health camp

Tuensang, August 12 (MExN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tuensang conducted awareness cum soil health camp on August 8 at Chendang village. Chendang is one of the adopted villages of the KVK. Sixty one participants attended the programme.  

Keynote address was delivered by Tokiho Achumi. He urged the farmers of the village to take advantage of the soil testing facility provided by the Kendra, he also added that we Naga farmers depends so much on what the soil provides but never try to enrich the soil in return. It is high time we initiate action to conserve and enhance our soil productivity he said.  

Imtilemla, SMS (Soil Conservation) delivered lectures on the importance of soil, functions of soil nutrients, maintaining soil fertility in the field through approaches of using organic manures, green manuring, biofertilizers, compost, etc. She elaborated on soil testing process and said that to get quality result the farmers should collect quality soil samples. Method demonstration on soil sampling was also demonstrated to the farmers.  

She also spoke on the usage of different types of fertilizers and neutralizers. Exhibition of different fertilizers and biofertilizers was also a part of the programme.  

On spot soil testing was also conducted with recommendations and remedial based on the soil result.
