KWRU condemns assault; demands speedy investigation

Kohima, February 14 (MExN): The Kohima Wozhuro Range Union (KWRU) has come out strongly against the alleged physical attack on one of its members at his private residence at Forest Colony, Wokha around 6:00 pm on February 12.

A press release from KWRU chairman, Zubemo Lotha alleged that a group of miscreants claiming to be of BJP “physically assaulted, manhandled and attacked” its member “without any rhyme or reason.”

The victim was attacked with a gun butt and was seriously injured and undergoing treatment in Kohima, according to the release.

The union has appealed to the district administration and the District Executive Force to do in-depth investigation speedily and ascertain the identity of the perpetrators at the earliest and book them under section 352 & 307 IPC, “so as to immediately build confidence over the Range public and the other Lotha village citizens residing in Wokha town.”

KWRU further viewed the “continuous assaults and attacks” as “a provocative action challenging other Lotha village citizens residing in Wokha town.”

Stating that the “continuous incidences” have been occurring every election period for the last 15 years “under the very eyes and ears of the law keepers which had been tolerated for long by the victimised village citizens residing in Wokha town,” it warned that if it is not stopped or curbed at the earliest a day may come where other citizens of different Lotha villages may be compelled to retaliate in future whether in Wokha, Kohima or Dimapur to defend their village citizens.

“It is quite irrational and unbecoming of any sane human to let one/two Lotha villages to bulldoze the majority just for election. It is expected from now on that one should live and let (others) live in peace and harmony,” KWRU asserted.

The union further appealed to the district administration and police force to provide 24 hours Central force security at National Highway from Forest colony to Longsa village and all hyper sensitive areas that had been screened by the administration in Wokha Town.
