LCU holds seminar on ‘Social Teachings of Catholic’

Dimapur, October 9 (MExN): The Lotha Catholic Union (LCU) held seminar on ‘Social Teachings of Catholic’ on October 9 at Youth Centre DBHSS Wokha, with Elias T Lotha, former President Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) and Johnny Roungmei, former Secretary General, Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) as the main speakers.


LCU General Secretary, M. Samuel Ezung in a press release said that the programme commenced with an invocation from Rev Fr AD Jose, Parish Priest Wokha followed by welcome address from Aremo Patton, Literature Secretary, LCU.


Elias exhorted the gathering on the social teachings of Catholic Church since its inception which was laid down by St. Peter. Highlighting from the Bible, he urged upon the congregation to love their neighbour and as a catholic we should be an agent of change and every individual should imbibe the principal of evangelization by spreading the word of God in order to reach out to those who are unreached.


He stressed on the principles of Catholic social teachings. He encouraged the congregation to impart the quality teachings of Catholic Church, urging the faithful to reexamine whether we are a true Christian. Reflecting and resounding the principles of social teachings of Catholic Church he laid a note that all human beings are created in God’s own image and likeness with a belief that human dignity originates from God and we are all sent to serve and not to be served. The Holy Trinity that exist in close proximity to each other is an example to all human beings to unconditionally love our own neighbours as we love ourselves which is not based on individual’s merit or accomplishment. 


On the dignity of work and rights of workers he urged the congregation to participate in the creative work of God and not only for individual’s survival. To deprive the wages of an employ is tantamount to murdering of a labourer such that he impel the gathering to follow the teachings of Christ, respecting the rights and needs of others and integrating into the achievement of the common good for all without any distinction on the basis of colour, creed, caste, sex or religion and caring all God’s creation with responsibility.


Johnny Roungmei, said that Catholic Social Teachings is a church doctrine directed from the teachings of Christ and a directive for action with an aim to help, purify, reason, contribute, acknowledge and attainment of justice and  paving the way to leading a good life. Highlighting the teachings of St. Pope John Paul & Pope Benedict XVI he called on the congregation to be acquainted with Catholic Social Teachings so that we establish structures that need renovation. He laid stress on common good by urging the congregation not to be selfish or self-centered but by sharing the gifts of God among the community, and to develop and grow not as an individual but as a community. 


Speeches from the speakers were followed by discussion hour on various areas concerning Catholic Social Teaching and all the quarries were responded. The programme witnessed special number from Shanchobeni Kikon. Vote of thanks was delivered by Nzanbemo Lapon, Vice President, LCU and benediction was blessed by Rev Fr John Ntonsi Yanthan, Parish In-charge Longsa.
