Legal awareness campaign covers Eastern Nagaland

Kohima, April 21 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland Women Organization (ENWO) in collaboration with Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) organized six days legal awareness campaign throughout the jurisdiction of Eastern Nagaland covering four districts headquarters and sub-division from April 11 to 16.  

The campaign kicked off from Mon and Pungro with Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) and Yimchunger Women Organization (YWO) on April 11 and proceeded to Aboi and conducted seminar with KNSK Aboi unit and at Kiphire with Akheda Sangtamlaru Thsingmujang on April 12, at Shamator with Yimchunger Women Organization and at Longleng with Phomla Hoichem on April 13, at Tobu with KNSK Tobu unit and at Noklak with Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam on April 14 and at Tuensang with Changsao Thangjam Setshang on April 15 and Longkhim with Akheda Sangtamlaru Thsingmujang on April 16.  

The campaign was led by L. Ayong Chang, president ENWO and Ruth, General Secretary ENWO. Yimtsusangla Chang, Legal Aid Counsel cum Trainer NSLSA represented the NSLSA. Topics like Family Planning, Human Trafficking, Sanitation, Health and Domestic helper related issues were covered by the ENWO officials.  

From the legal point of view topics like Child Marriage Restraint Act and Prohibition of Child Labour were focused, as the rate of child labour in the form of domestic helper is increasing and the problem of child marriage especially at the grass root level is yet to be curbed.  

While highlighting the Juvenile Justice Act the gathering was encouraged to set up village level child welfare committee at village level. Other topics like Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005, Protection of Children From Sexual Offences Act 2012, Victims Compensation Act, Immoral Trafficking Act and other welfare schemes like Financial Assistance for Destitute Women, Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK), Production unit of Sanitary Napkins, Social Security for Women in the form of Nagaland Building and other construction workers, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Yojana, National Family Benefit Scheme and Postal schemes like Basic Deposit Account (Saving Bank) and Sukanya Samriddhi Account (SSA) were introduced.
