Legal literacy booklets in Tenyidie released

KOHIMA, August 16 (MExN): Justice L.S Jamir, Judge Guwahati High court and Executive Chairman of Nagaland State Legal Services Authority released legal literacy booklets translated in Tenyidie at District Jail Kohima on August 15.  

The translated booklets are on Senior Citizen Act, Motor Vehicle Act, Prohibition of Smoking, and Constitution Provision for Women, Legal Aid and Legal Services and state government schemes. Justice L.S Jamir awarded monetary compensation of Rs. 1.50 Lakh to victims and the next kin under the Nagaland Victim Compensation Scheme, 2012.  

Y. Maongkaba Imchen, NJS principal District and Session Judge and Chairman, KDLSA led the first session. During the programme, the gathering was enthralled through a special song by the jail inmates. Play on rights of arrested person was presented by Panel Lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers of KDLSA.  

A press release from the KDLSA mentioned that for availing the victim compensation, Panel lawyers/Para Legal Volunteers identify the victims and an application is submitted either to Chief Judicial Magistrate or District and Session Judge for recommendation under the Nagaland Victim Compensation Scheme 2012.  

The applications along with medical certificate are forwarded to Home Department and Rehab and Rehabilitation Department. The Department finalizes the list for awarding compensation.
