Legislators Forum calls for Naga solution before polls

KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 17 (MExN): The Nagaland Legislators Forum (NLF) on Naga Political issue held a meeting today at the Conference Hall of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat under the Chairmanship of Dr Imtiwapang Aier, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

A press note from the forum informed that the meeting stressed on the need to bring about an early solution to the Naga issue before the ensuing assembly polls in the state.

The Forum opined that with involvement of the six NNPGs along with NSCM (IM) in the talks, it is the right time to finalize a solution that is inclusive. In view of Nagaland Assembly Elections due in few months, the forum considered it important to ensure that the settlement of the political issue is done before elections to prevent shift of focus from settlement to election. In this regard, it was decided that an all Political Party Meeting should be convened by the Chief Minister at the earliest.

The meeting also agreed that a delegation of legislators should go to New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister and the central leaders to submit a memorandum on the Naga political Issue seeking an early solution before the ensuing State Election, 2018.

Meanwhile, the forum endorsed the points made in the memorandum submitted by the Parliamentary Working Committee of Nagaland Legislators Forum on Naga Political issue to Prime Minister of India on July 16, 2015. It further appreciated the “leadership and vision” of the Prime Minister “for the significant progress made in the negotiations for the final settlement of the Naga political issue.”
