The BJP’s intending candidate from 2 Dimapur II Assembly Constituency Moatoshi Longkumer called for a major shift towards winning over the people for the BJP to secure a strong foothold in Nagaland. Speaking at the 2 Dimapur II Mandal meeting of the BJP on July 31, Longkumer held Nagaland as a “tricky state for the BJP.”

Referring to the apprehension of the people here towards the BJP and its perceived pro-Hindu religious leanings, Longkumer said that of late many issues as regards the party’s image and intention have cropped up, which has to be addressed with priority and reversed.

With the challenges in context, he said that the objective should be to win the trust of the people. “We have to let the people know that the BJP believes in secularism… that the BJP respects the culture and religious sentiments of the Nagas.” Stating that religion is a choice, he added that no one has the right to impose one’s religion on another.

According to him, the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has captured the “national imagination” unlike any other in the past. This, he said, has been made possible because of the PM’s unblemished focus to bring development to the grassroots and ridding corruption from governance.

Ananta Narayan Mishra, organising secretary, BJP Nagaland said that having a strong organisational structure is essential to winning over members and voters to the party. The challenges notwithstanding, he said that the party will pave the way towards how a clean election is fought. As for the BJP’s electoral prospects in Nagaland and the kind of governance it would usher in, he said a BJP government would bring development schemes to the doorsteps.

SEM & Convenor, Finance & Development, BJP Nagaland Temjen Imna Along Longkumer said that the BJP’s electoral foray into Nagaland should not be misunderstood. He said that the party’s objective is developing Nagaland and not to impose its sway on the people and the culture here.

Mishra visits Peren, Tening Mandals

Dimapur, July 31 (MExN): The BJP Peren district along with the Organizing Secretary Nagaland Ananta Narayan Mishra visited BJP 7th Peren and 6th Tening Mandal as part of its tour programme on July 28 and 29.

A press note from the BJP Peren District President Huzantadbo Meriam informed that while addressing the gathering, Mishra expressed sadness over the condition of the area “citing poor pace of development, lack of proper electricity, telephone connectivity and road etc”

However with state general election round the corner, he said that the people will see the light if BJP is voted to power, it said.

Mishra said that people used to make fun of BJP during its initial days, and the same is happening in Nagaland now, it added.

“Oppositions are raising unwanted rumours and propaganda to disgrace the face of BJP because it is gaining popularity in the State.”

He encouraged the people to set high visions because the power lies with the voters and they are the ones to bring changes, the press note said.

And, if BJP comes to power in Nagaland, Mishra said along with the State government, he would appeal the Central Government for Nagaland to have 3 MPs and will raise another two constituencies in Peren District (one each for Peren and Tening) and in total 80 (Eighty) assembly constituencies in Nagaland, it added.

It further informed that Mishra also appealed the public and party members to “keep check” the Illegal Immigrants as it is rapidly growing in the North East region especially in Nagaland where "all the central scheme of daily needs commodity like rice, sugar, kerosene etc were directly or indirectly benefited by them which is meant for local indigenous people.”

Khiubangdi Chawang, BJP Spokesperson Nagaland also expressed dismay over the slow pace of development of Tening. Citing the poor road condition of Tening, he noted that it is the longest running unrepaired road in Nagaland.

He also pointed out the pathetic road condition of Tening Town saying it is in a shameful state. Further, Chawang urged the people to know how to differentiate between religions and political party and help in bringing the BJP to power because it is the only party committed to provide overall development. He also highlighted the 10 (ten) points party strategy for initiating party movement.

Chambeni, Secretary BJP Nagaland in her brief speech said that, BJP in Nagaland is getting popular among the Nagas and urged the party workers of the Mandal to cope with time and situation and catch up with the rest of the country.

Dr. Tasile N. Zeliang, President BJMM Peren; Zandi Domta, SEM BJP Nagaland; Ester Bano, Secretary BJP Nagaland and Co-Incharge; and Kuputo Shohe, V/President BJP Nagaland & Incharge Peren District also spoke on the occasions.
