The Morung Express approached a cross-section of people to gather their views on how they are spending their time during the nationwide lockdown period.

‘21 days is a long time’

Melekhoto Pucho says 21 days is a long time but he is actually enjoying staying at home.

“I am a person who loves to keep to myself busy and spends most of my time outside so this lockdown has been very difficult for me. However, I am using lockdown time to rest well and trying to keep myself busy at home. I usually spend my time cleaning the house in the morning, cooking, watching movies, news and practicing music.”

Pucho who runs music academy in Kohima informed that after so many years he now has the time to binge on tv shows. He recently watched a Korean TV series called “Crash Landing on You” and loved it.

Pucho said “My only message at this time is stay home and stay safe. As a responsible citizen we all have to think about our future and right now it is very important that we practice social distancing and obey our leaders.”

“Let us stay home and protect ourselves and our families and most importantly let us continue to pray,” he added.

Also maintaining that COVID-19 is a serious disease wherein everyone should take this lockdown very seriously and take all necessary precautions, he commented “Let us continue to pray and ask God to lead us. The time has come for us to leave behind our differences and come together as one to fight this disease.”

‘Learning new things’

“There are lots of things to do, whether you are on the recreational side or want to improve yourself. There are also lots of things to entertain yourself with during this lockdown,” shared singer,Metet Jamir.

“I have signed up for Netflix so I have got access to pretty much all the Netflix movies and series! I just watched the "Vikings" season 6 and it is easily one of the best series I have watched recently. Now, I'm on my second Netflix series 'Narcos: Mexico Season 2'. It was on my radar since the trailer was released and it is out now on Netflix,” she added.

Metet is also spending some time learning to play the guitar.

“I challenged myself to learn guitar during this 21 day’s lockdown. Thanks to YouTube tutorials,” said Metet, who is the vocalist of the band Run Monday Run.

“Be safe and be aware of the fact that COVID-19 is extremely contagious and not to be taken lightly. Avoid by staying indoor and social distancing. Remain calm and have faith,” conveyed Metet.

“Meaningful time with family”

“Being at home 24x7, I am having a meaningful time with my family,” AtanuTheyo told The Morung Express.

Theyo, who runs a hotel in Kohima, said his is using this time to connect more with his four children by teaching them word of God and also learning from them.

He is also spending some time reading and cooking.  “I love cooking and am trying to learn more recipes through YouTube,” he added.

His message to everyone is to “stay home and stay safe. Use mask when you go out. Make habit to wash your hand. Keep social distance of one metre while you are in queue and spread awareness to people around you. Don’t be over smart and come out unnecessarily. Be responsible and follow government advice.”

Theyo requested others to develop a positive mindset and stay away from rumours in social media.

“Let us not always criticize the government but be united and fight together at this time of crisis,” he insisted.

Further, he urged the government to identify daily wage earners with the help of NGOs and colony councils, so as to deliver relief to them.
