Nagaland State AIDS Control Society announces multi-media campaign 2017-18

The Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) will be conducting its multi-media campaign (MMC) 2017-18 under the theme ‘Life Now, Yes life, NO HIV’ to promote awareness, compassion, education and support for the issue of HIV and AIDS in Nagaland. The event in the form of state level band competition will be held on December 1 at The Heritage, Old DC Bungalow, Kohima with Life Pro as its event partner. Announcing the campaign during a press conference held at NSACS office on November 23, Dr. Nangshimeren, Project Director stated that the campaign aims to capitalize on the popularity of leocal entertainment avenues among youth especially in the area of music which has a huge fan following in Nagaland.  

Targeting the youth within in the age group of 15-35, Dr. Nangshimeren noted that this age group has the highest prevalence rate of HIV in Nagaland at 57 percent. The NSACS announced that 18 bands from Nagaland has submitted original songs based on HIV and AIDS or drug abuse in audio demo format out of which 12 bands were shortlisted for the competition. The winner for the competition will win a cash prize of Rs. 200,000, the first runners up will be awarded Rs. 100000 and the second runners up will win a cash prize of Rs.50,0000. The best lyrics, guitarist, vocalist, bassist and drummer will win a cash prize of Rs.10,000 each. The bands participating at the competition are Tune Up Channel (Mokokchung), Pay the Rent (Kohima), Trans Effect (Dimapur), Yellow Beacon (Dimapur), Since 90s (Dimapur), Plan P (Mokokchung), Dynamic Cardiod (Mokokchung), DK Entertainment (Kohima) District Theory (Kohima), Happy Feet (Kohima), Naga Incarnate (Tuensang) and Fifth Note (Kohima). Starting at 4:00 pm, the entry is free and open to all.  

The aims and objectives of the campaign are:

  • Greater visibility for the issue of HIV and AIDS
  • Encourage safe and responsible behavior among the youth
  • Reduce the level of stigma and discrimination by demystifying HIV and AIDS
  • Promote HIV and AIDS related services especially HIV Testing
  • STI Awareness and condom promotion
